Introduction to Patterns - MWSIPI

Recommended Participants: Key scheduling personnel, Guidance, Vice Principals, Principals
Duration: Half Day
Level: Intermediate

At the heart of a school set up are the Semester/Term and Day/Period Patterns. What is a Pattern? How does one go about defining the school structure and patterns? Participants of this seminar will gain an understanding of how best to define their school's patterns, thus allowing the school to maximize the Scheduling components of Maplewood. The evolution of the school structure shall be discussed along with different scenarios and best practices. Specific topics include: School Set-up, Sets, Patterns, Classes File and Student Timetables.


Choice Entry - MWSCEB

Recommended Participants: Key school scheduling personnel, Secretaries
Duration: Half Day
Level: Beginner

Focusing on the first segment of the scheduling process, participants will discover the Student Choices. From the beginning step of Initializing scheduling through to choice analysis this half-day seminar is an excellent launching point for those new to the scheduling process. Best practices and tricks for sequencing choices and choice types will also be discussed. Specific topics include: Initializing Scheduling, the Scheduling courses file, Choice Types, Adding Student Choices and Analyzing the tallies.

In short, the scheduling process consists of three major segments: Entering the Students' Choices, Building the School Timetable and Loading (blending) the two together. The following seminar focuses on the first segment only, that of Student Choices.


Secondary Scheduling - MWSSCI

Recommended Participants: Key scheduling personnel, Guidance, Vice Principals, Principals
Duration: Full Day
Level: Intermediate

Traditionally, the beginning of February brings about the Scheduling season in a secondary school. To best prepare a school for the upcoming year, this seminar will focus on the robust Scheduling module contained within the Maplewood. From the first step of Initializing Scheduling through to the very last step of Transferring to Current, participants will equip themselves with the knowledge and confidence to move from year to year. The powerful Master Builder will be introduced as will the three main methodologies of scheduling to be addressed: Manually (use choice analysis as much as possible, Automatically (Automatic Placement), and Semi-Automatically (combination of two mentioned methods). Other topics to be addressed include: Modifying School Structure (Patterns, Courses, Codes), Choice Entry, Creating a Classes File, the Master Builder, Loading Students, Year End Maintenance and finally closing the school year. Even if a school has scheduled before, participants will benefit from this comprehensive workshop.

Advanced Secondary Scheduling - MWSSAA

Recommended Participants: Experienced scheduling personnel
Duration: Half Day
Level: Advanced

Bring scheduling questions and skills to this workshop. Designed for experienced scheduler, participants will gain a better understanding of the Maplewood Scheduling module. An in-depth analysis of the Master Builder coupled with the functional relationships to other applications within Maplewood shall be discussed along with the sharing of best practices. Specific topics include: Manipulating Automatic Placement and Load Students, School Set-up, Patterns, Assign Classes to Choices, Conflict Matrices, Conflict Resolution, Inquiry and Report Builder.

Elementary: Preparing for the New School Year - MWENYI

Recommended Participants: Elementary Secretaries
Duration: Half Day
Level: Intermediate

Preparing for a new school year is a process that may begin at any time with the Maplewood Elementary system. This seminar focuses on distributing the tasks required to prepare for a new school year and to close the existing school year. From the first step of Initializing Scheduling through to the very last step of Transferring to Current, participants will equip themselves with the knowledge and confidence to move from year to year. Other topics to be addressed include: Adding Pre-registrants, creating and assigning Next Year's Homerooms, Modifying School Structure, Creating a New Calendar, Year End Maintenance and finally closing the school year.
